Let me tell you how the Leadercast Blog soup was made.

I audited our past posts a few months ago and noticed a few things:

  • We used phrases like “Leaders must” way too much.
  • We provided a lot of information with very few stories.
  • We often left the reader with a list of four to seven things they need to remember or do.

And it hit me.

I would write the posts early in the week, and by Friday, I (the Author!) could not remember the seven things or the main point.

(Also, I hate phrases like “Leaders must.” They sound like the writer added something new to my to-do list.)

So, I changed the blog format to simple stories with one central point.

A speech teacher once said, “If it’s a haze in the lectern, it’s a cloud in the chairs.”

His point is that if the speaker isn’t clear about what he is trying to say, his audience will be confused.

So, you may be asking yourself, what’s the point of this post? It’s feeling a little hazy. 🙂

Here it is: Before you send that email, call that meeting, post that blog, record that video, or give that presentation, ask yourself, “What ONE THING do I want from this?”

  • What do I want them to know?
  • What problem do I want to solve?
  • What do I want them to do?

And don’t hit send, post, record, or present until you answer that question.

Answering that one question will elevate your communication dramatically.
